A student suffered a chemical burn to the eye after using micellar water

Student Jade Inglis stated that she needed treatment for victims of acid attacks after a Garnier product burned her eyes. .

Before going to bed, Jade bathed her eyes with micellar cleansing water based on Garnier's micellar oil and noticed nothing before going to bed.

The next morning, she woke up and found her right eye "stuck" with a sticky discharge.

Jade, 19, called 111 who told him to go to A & E.

The doctors determined that Jade had a chemical burn on his eyeball, which appeared under the lens as a bright green mark. It is thought that burning is the result of the product of micellar water.

Jade had to rinse his eyes with a solution used on victims of acid attacks.

The student is now sharing photos of her injury to raise awareness of the risks badociated with beauty products, even if they are designed for sensitive areas.

Jade said, "It was like I had a sunburn in my eye, the pain was excruciating.

"When my eye turned green because of the dye, I looked like Poison Ivy from Batman movies. Fortunately, it faded after a few hours.

'I was terrified of losing my sight when I learned that I had a chemical abrasion to my eye. I was first asked if it was permanent or not.

"They took the pH level of my eye – the level of my right eye was higher than my left]then they used a solution for my eye which, they say, was used for victims of an acid attack.

"I had to lie down for 20 minutes with the tube in my eye, it was horrible.

It was held in place with a small sucker that looked like a toilet piston around all my eye. It was so uncomfortable that I never felt anything like it.

"They put an orange dye in my eye and then examined my eye through an optician's optics to see if there had been any permanent damage.

"They could see a very big abrasion on my student because of the chemical burn, it's the green on the picture, and they said it would heal on its own.

Jade received painkillers and antibiotics and was sent home. But since there was no improvement two days later, she was forced to make another trip to A & E.

"My eyes were closed all day Saturday because I was in so much pain and I cried constantly," Jade said.

"I had already booked tickets to Sheffield to visit my boyfriend on Sunday and I did not want to waste my money.

"I wore sunglbades throughout the trip, so much was I aware of myself."

At the hospital, Jade received more medication and was rebadured that there would be no lasting harm.

Jade is now asking Garnier to stop selling the product, believing that it poses a risk to other customers.

"I had used other micellar waters from Garnier before and I had no problem," she said.

"I missed my usual device and I saw this one, impregnated with oil, in the store and I thought I would try.

"I make up religiously before bed, so I soaked the cleanser on a cotton pad and wiped it around my face and eyes to remove everything.

"I did not notice anything unusual when I put the product on my skin – it looked and I felt good.

"As soon as I woke up the next day, my right eye was stuck with a discharge, I could tell it was something different than sleeping in my eyes.

"I went straight to the bathroom, I tried to open it and wiped the entire discharge before contacting a friend, then 111.

"It's probably this Garnier product because I use everything else for years.

"The pain before the eye drops was excruciating, I would stay up all night crying. The doctors can not do anything else with that, I was told he will recover on his own.

"If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone, I do not want others to suffer from the pain I have, it's horrible.

"I'm not allergic to anything, and as it's only happened in one eye, it's clearly a chemical burn and not an allergic reaction. The bottle says it's a product for the face, eyes and lips.

"I have been so conscious of myself since it happened and I have been wearing sunglbades since the beginning.

"I'm always very scared to put on makeup – I dared not put anything near me.

"I would like Garnier to remove shelves, it specifically says it's for the eyes and that it even gave me a chemical burn."

A spokesman for Garnier said: "Micellar cleaning water, like all products in our Garnier range, is subject to rigorous testing to ensure its safe use, even on sensitive skin.

"Our Consumer Advisory Team is currently in conversation with Jade to understand the facts surrounding his specific experience."
