Rio Ferdinand admitted that Liverpool deserved full glory in the Champions League and said their success in the Wanda Metropolitano will be the subject of a "coming discussion for years".

The goals of Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi earned the Reds a sixth European crown with a 2-0 win over Tottenham for their first trophy under Jurgen Klopp. You can read how we evaluated and designated the players here.

While Liverpool has not made vintage, the former Manchester United star Ferdinand – himself a winner of the Champions League in 2008 – insists that nobody linked to the Reds will care.

"This team is going to be a dreaded team in Europe. No one wants to take this team out of the hat or play at Anfield, " Ferdinand told BT Sport.

"It's now a fear, they have produced big results. We will no longer talk about this performance in the years to come. We did not play well against Chelsea in 2008, but I did not care.

"These boys deserve it. I think they'll get stronger with that. "

Glenn Hoddle, his media expert, shared this opinion, even though he felt the best team had lost the night.

"Jurgen Klopp built this team, he obviously received good support, "he said. "But that's how Liverpool plays – the tempo they play, the system they play, it suits them.

"He knows what he wants from players, they have clarity when they go there."

Hoddle continued, "That said, the Spurs were better. The goalkeeper [Alisson Becker] was their best player.

Michael Owen said Liverpool would now be considered a "great player" and could be a big challenge for silverware in the years to come.

"Who cares to know if they played well or badly? This team is in an incredible cycle right now and they have to win trophies, so why not start with the big one, "said Owen.

"They now have the tools to get to the bottom of every tournament and they really make a great team."
