NXT takeover: XXV
Broadcast live on June 1, 2019 on the WWE network
Bridgeport, Connecticut at the Webster Bank Arena

A video package opened the series and included the hype of the five games … The broadcast crews of Mauro Rbadlo, Nigel McGuinness and Beth Phoenix registered from their office near the ring. Rbadlo noted that it was the first time Phoenix called a takeover event …

1. Matt Riddle vs. Roderick Strong. There were big songs of "frangins" as Riddle entered the room. The bell rang and the bell was dark. They quickly adjusted the spotlight to focus on the ring rather than the crowd. Riddle started with three suplexes. They went to the edge of the ring. Riddle jumped down the stairs and hit Strong with a forearm. Strong returned with a backbreaker on the ring apron at 3:10 pm.

Back in the ring, Strong used a floor and a pound. The live crowd had dueling songs with one for Riddle with "Undisputed" for Strong. Riddle returned with a suplex. The wrestlers exchanged strikes. Riddle got the upper hand and then lay down and kicked Strong's head. Riddle executed an exploded suplex. Riddle had a nice sequence that ended with a kick in the race, which led to a countdown in two at 8:20.

At 10:25, Strong makes a superplex almost freefall. The wrestlers got up and exchanged their forearms. Strong went to get a clothesline, but Riddle ran over his arm. Strong grabbed him with more strokes and then blew him with a knee and a few forearms that rolled before making a backbreaker that led to a close fall at 11:50. Riddle left for a moonlight, but Strong raised his knees. Riddle returned with one knee to the head, a powerbomb and another knee to the head for a close fall at 12:45.

Strong performed a powerbomb during a good fall at 1:20 pm, then was countered right in a Boston crab. Strong rolled Riddle over him, then pushed his knee into Riddle's back. Riddle threw himself in the back and kicked Strong, then applied a wait of submission. Strong stood up. Riddle nudged him, then executed a cradle gravestone and inscribed the clean pin.

Matt Riddle defeated Roderick Strong in 14.45.

POV from Powell: A great opening match. The wrestlers delivered a lot of time and the crowd was red and grateful. The top job of both men. From the point of view of production, the live crowd could not be darker. You can barely distinguish the faces of the fans in the front row and his black tone behind them. I like the look back. In fact, the ring features WWE turnbuckles rather than the usual NXT carabiners, and the barricade bears the NXT and WWE logos.

After a few commercials, Shawn Michaels and Road Dogg were shown in the crowd. The duo DX compared the rings of the WWE Hall of Fame … A video set prepared the ladder match for the vacant titles NXT Tag …

2. Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly vs. "Street Profits" Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford vs. Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan vs. "Forgotten Sounds" Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler in a 4-step match for the vacant NXT Tag Titles. The two NXT Tag Title belts were suspended above the ring. The Street Profits crossed the crowd and found themselves in front of the fans in the first row instead of going out through the entrance. The Street Profits crossed the crowd and found themselves in front of the fans in the first row instead of going out through the entrance.

The referee called for the bell and immediately rushed to the ring. All eight men fought while McGuinness noted that there was no disqualification or scoring in the ladder matches. The Profits and Burch and Lorcan quickly found themselves at the edge of the ring, then Fish and O'Reilly worked on the Sons and released them from the ring. Lorcan and Burch returned to the ring and fought with Fish and O'Reilly.

Blake made a big suicide dive on Fish and O'Reilly, who were holding a ladder near the ring. Dawkins followed with a plunge of the top rope on the pile. The Profits attempted for the first time to win the titles, but Fish and O'Reilly cut them. Fish and O'Reilly played for the belts. Blake pushed back the ladder and O'Reilly landed hard on the side of the ladder. Damn. Blake and Cutler placed the ladder around their heads and hit their opponents. Burch and Lorcan grabbed them from behind and caused the surprise of the two men, who made the ladder fly.

The profits kicked Blake into a ladder inside the ring. O'Reilly returned to the match despite a cut in the back he had previously held. Fish and O'Reilly teamed up to create a combo that drove one of the benefits on a scale. The fish played for the belts. O'Reilly was propelled into the ladder, then Fish fell off the ladder and landed on O. Reilly. At 11:25, Burch and Lorcan performed a dead Peripheral style movement on one of the Sons, and then the profits performed a Doomsday device blockbuster on the other. Sensational.

At 12:30, the third member of the Forgotten Sons, Jaxson Ryder, came into the ring and attacked the members of the other three teams. Dawkins played for the belts, but Ryker reversed the ladder. Rbadlo noted that no one could stop Ryker because there was no disqualification. Ryker threw Lorcan on a ladder in a corner. Ryker began to set up a ladder. Ford hit him from behind, but Ryker knocked him out. O'Reilly returned to the ring and attacked Ryker, then Fish and the other two teams joined him to hit him and then stomp him several times. The teams grabbed a ladder and hit it several times on Ryker and then started fighting again.

Fish and O'Reilly set up a ladder in the middle of the ring. Ryker stood up on the apron. Fish and O'Reilly decided to slam their ladder in front of Ryker's face, which made him fall from the apron. Ryker rose to the edge of the ring. Ford leaped forward and jumped over the Fish and O'Reilly ladder and the top rope, then onto Ryker near the ring. Lorcan followed with a dive on Ryker. Burch and Lorcan targeted Fish Fish's arm, then sent him through the ropes and into the pole, then he fell to the ring's edge. Burch and Lorcan worked on O'Reilly.

At 19:15, Burch and Lorcan set up a ladder in the ring and play for the belts, but Fish and O'Reilly come back to cut them. Fish and O'Reilly have installed a ladder next to each other. Both teams climbed the ladder while exchanging shots while climbing. They continued to punch each other up the ladder until Blake and Cutler pushed them up. Blake and Cutler began to climb the ladder. Dawkins took out one of the Sons. Ford came out of nowhere jumping up the ladder, toppled the other Son and pulled the belt to win the match.

The Street Profits defeated Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly, Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan, as well as Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler in a ladder match at 9:30 pm to win the vacant NXT Tag.

The Street Profits went in the crowd and celebrated with the fans, who had red cups and celebrated with the new champions …

POV from Powell: Kyle O'Reilly deserves to have at least one extra zero added to his winnings for this game. I can not believe he got up from the bump that cut him in the back, let alone worked to a level comparable to the one he followed. It was a madness match match from bell to bell. Ryker's interference was well done as they made it look like a tough guy without it being taken into account in the finish. The winnings were very well received by the live crowd.

Io Shirai was shown preparing his match in his locker room. Candice LeRae was introduced and told her that she was there for her and offered her her words of encouragement …

A video set up the NXT North American Title match …

3. Velveteen Dream vs. Tyler Breeze for the NXT North American Championship. Breeze made his usual selfie entry. Dream had a pair of small fans and a Prince style shirt when he entered. Dream's tights were glittery and had neither messages nor images. Dream removed the shirt after the opening bell. Dream also removed his gloves, which he threw on Breeze. Dream started the game by wearing a brightly colored necklace around his neck and back. After the first exchange with Breeze, Dream tore up the part of the necklace that wrapped around her back. Breeze was retrieving Dream from the ring, and the rest of the necklace was gone.

At 4:30, Breeze interpreted a one-legged crab in Dream, who screamed in pain until he reached the ropes to break the hold. Breeze remained on the offensive and Breeze arrived at the edge of the ring. Breeze followed and ended up eating a Dream superkick that returned to the ring. The referee started counting on Breeze, but Dream stopped him, then went to the ring and slammed Breeze's head against the TV crew table several times at 6:15. Dream grabbed his title belt and Breeze's phone, then filmed himself with the title belt in front of Breeze. The picture appeared on the big screen. Funny.

Back in the ring, Dream executed a Death Valley pilot for two accounts. Dream rose in the lead, but Breeze rolled up to the apron. Dream pursued him, allowing Breeze to catch him with an enzuigiri. Breeze caught up with his top model Kick soon after for a fall. Rbadlo went crazy, but the live crowd did not buy it as a possible arrival. At 10:15, Dream grabbed Breeze with a DDT for a near fall. Breeze had a small cut in the ear or near it.

At noon Breeze got up and grabbed Dream with a knee. The two men fought to position themselves during a tombstone attempt. Neither one nor the other ended up hitting the move. Dream went to the ropes. Breeze threw a dropkick even though Dream was away from him. Rbadlo felt that the balance was broken due to an ear injury. At 14:20, Breeze caught up with Dream Unprettier for a good end of the year. Breeze caught Dream with a Beauty Shot, but Dream rolled over the edge of the ring before Breeze could cover him. Breeze prevented the referee from counting Dream out. Dream tried to hit Breeze with the title belt, but Breeze ended up with it. Dream executed a pilot of the Death Valley, followed by the fall of Purple Rainmaker's elbow and scored the goal.

Velveteen Dream defeated Tyler Breeze in 16:50 to retain the title of North American Champion NXT.

After the match, Dream posed using the Breeze phone. Breeze approached him. Dream gave him the phone and told him that it belonged to him, while the title belt belonged to him. Dream tried to leave, but Breeze stopped him. They posed together for a selfie-style photo under the applause of the fans, then Dream left the ring …

POV from Powell: A match of quality and yet he remained shy of my high expectations. The finish seemed to leave the door open for a rematch, but the post – match scene with the two men posing gave the impression that Breeze was in agreement with the way Dream won the match. Paul Levesque gave the impression that Breeze had become an NXT regular again during his teleconference earlier in the week. And while this may indeed be the case, it is also possible that he has told a lie to make the result less predictable.

A video package of the Damian priest (formerly Punishment Martinez) was broadcast … A video package organized the match of the NXT Women's Championship …

4. Shayna Baszler vs. Io Shirai for the NXT Women's Championship. The ring announcer introduced the introductions in the ring for the title game. Baszler took Shirai to the floor and kicked, then teased him with a slight kick in the face. Moments later, Shirai dismissed the favor by teasing a kick, then hitting Baszler's face in the seat. Baszler came back and targeted Shirai's left elbow. Shirai rallied and performed a transitional German suplex, but McGuinness told that she could not stand Baszler because of her bad elbow.

Shortly after, Baszler stood on the ropes and grabbed Shirai's bad arm. Shirai broke free and kicked Baszler. Shirai climbed up and made a lunar descent on Baszler's floor. At 9:20 am, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke walked by the ring. Candice LeRae came out and attacked them with a kendo stick. LeRae plunged into the duo from the ring steps. In the ring, Baszler avoided a Shirai moon cutter, hit Shirai with a forearm and applied her bid suspension, but Shirai made it a pin for two counts. Baszler returned immediately with his Kirifuda Clutch finisher. Shirai tried to fight, but she ended up taking advantage.

Shayna Baszler defeated Io Shirai at 12:15 to retain the NXT Women's Championship.

After the match, Shirai picked up the kendo stick that LeRae pulled out and beat Baszler with. Shirai performed a lunar attack on Baszler in the ring. McGuinness called it a terrible show of sportsmanship. LeRae handed a chair to Shirai. Shirai performed a moon moon with the chair on Baszler. The crowd sang once more. Rbadlo justified Shirai's antics by saying that sometimes it was too much. Baszler was being cheated on the back because of one of the kendo sticks and she ended up getting out of the ring while holding her title belt …

POV from Powell: A good match. I am generally disappointed to see Baszler win this victory only because it means that she will not be taking part in the main training she belongs to. But as Ronda Rousey is pausing and the booking of the main composition is so atrocious, I'm fine if Baszler stays on the spot. Baszler has traveled almost all the significant women of the NXT lineup. The crowd was not happy to see Baszler being held back, but she will be really strong every time someone beats her for the title. Well, that badumes that Vince McMahon is not calling her on the main board and not letting her leave the NXT belt. Ugh.

A video offer contained the announcement of NXT Takeover: Cardiff for Saturday, August 31 … Stephanie McMahon was shown standing and applauding in the crowd …

POV from Powell: Yes, it's the same day as AEW's All Out event, but jet lag makes it a one-to-two shot rather than a face-to-face battle. It will be very interesting to see if WWE will resume its old habits by possibly directly organizing events opposed to AEW.

A video package was preparing for the NXT Championship game … Adam Cole made his debut and was accompanied by Josiah Williams, who sang while Cole headed for the ring. Gargano has made its standard entry …

5. Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole for the NXT Championship. The ring announcer introduced the introductions in the ring for the title game. Drake Wuertz was the referee. A loud "NXT" song has erupted. There were also dueling songs for Gargano and Cole. Gargano targeted Cole's left arm early in the game. Gargano had Cole on the ropes and went to get an armband, but Cole slipped under him and kicked him in the left leg. Cole went to work on his left leg around 8am.

Cole performed a missile drop in the Gargano's knee, followed by a bad on the dragon's leg. Cole went to the ropes and jumped on Gargano, who caught him with a powerbomb going down. At 11:30, Gargano performed a torsional DDT which resulted in a countdown in two. Moments later, Gargano led Cole through the ropes and got two more accounts. Gargano sold knee problems while he was getting up. Gargano sat Cole on the top rope and wrestled against the ropes. Cole slammed Gargano's face on the upper turnbuckle. Cole attempted a powerbomb, but Gargano avoided it, but jumped into a Cole Backstabber, which led to a tally in two at 1:15 pm.

Cole went to the ropes. Gargano cut it and they fought. Cole overthrew Gargano, then jumped into a superkick. Wrestlers exchanged superkicks. Cole connected with another superkick, then went to the ropes and jumped into a Gargano superkick. They went to the edge of the ring and launched simultaneous superkicks, which led the two men to be briefly at the edge of the ring. Once the wrestlers have entered the ring, a song of "fight forever" has erupted. They found themselves at the edge of the ring where Cole played his last shot. Back in the ring, Cole repeated the operation. Gargano came back with a crossed face. Cole escaped and applied a four figure that earned him two counts.

Gargano and Cole exchanged punches and kicks in the middle of the ring. Cole cut the wrong knee of Gargano. Gargano kicked Cole by the ring. Cole went back to the apron and crossed the ropes. Gargano made a suicide dive, but Cole caught him with a superkick in the air at 2:45. Cole performed a Panama Sunrise near the ring, then brought Gargano back into the ring where he had a close fall. Cole bit in Gargano and told him that he had his special moment and that now is the time for his. Cole had one knee on the ground, but Gargano avoided it. Cole applied Gargano Gargano Escape to him. Gargano broke the hold and then dropped one knee in the back of Cole's head, which led to another close fall.

At 25:40, Gargano and Cole exchanged punches and forearms on their knees and continued to stand up. Gargano knocked Cole out with a lariat clothesline. Cole came back with a superkick, then stumbled on a Gargano superkick, which then chained with an inverted huracanrana. Cole immediately returned with one knee to the back of Gargano's head for a big fall almost. The crowd became huge and chanted NXT. Cole barked at the referee. Cole went to the ring and pulled a chair under the ring. The referee Wuertz came out and tried to carry the chair. Gargano made a suicide dive and ended up leaving Wuertz rather than Cole. REF BUMP !!!

Cole swiveled the chair to Gargano, who lowered it and grabbed it with a superkick. Gargano rolled Cole inside the ring and lifted the visual. The live crowd counted, but the referee was still down. Gargano checked Wuertz and brought him back to the inside of the ring. Cole waved for help. Gargano took the chair and looked at the entrance ramp. When no one came out, Gargano dropped the chair and tried to get back into the ring, but Cole caught him crossing the ropes with a piledriver that led to a fall at around 9:30 pm.

Cole sat down with another knee on the ground, but Gargano fell. Cole took him in his arms and chewed him, only for Gargano to apply the Gargano Escape. Cole tried to get out of the hold, but Gargano held up. Cole cleared his way, then hit Gargano's bad knee twice and followed with an attempt from Panama, Sunrise. Gargano stuffed the ball, but Cole tried it on his second attempt, then kicked his knee in the back of Gargano's head and trapped him.

Adam Cole pinned Johnny Gargano in 32:00 to win the NXT championship.

Kyle O'Reilly, Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong, undisputed members of Era, came to celebrate with Cole after the match to close the show …

POV from Powell: A fantastic match. It will be a candidate of the game of the year. The title change is interesting in that Gargano is the NXT version of Sasha Banks in that he wins titles and fails to defend them. Will this make his character completely crazy? Does he go to the main draw after all? I guess only time will tell. Expectations were huge for this game and those two went beyond them. It was awesome. I'll have a lot more to say on this show in the exclusive audio review of my members later in the evening. In addition, we will have the press teleconference on the Paul Levesque show as a free podcast. In the meantime, you can rate the show and vote for the best match in our polls on the main page.
