The boss uses a coffee cup to test new staff at every job interview

A boss has revealed the simple test that he uses in every interview – and he will not hire anyone who would have failed.

This has nothing to do with your resume or references, Trent Innes having chosen to use a coffee cup test the potential staff.

Trent, of accounting software company Xero Australia, said he always made sure that his candidates would have a hot drink or a glbad of water when they show up for an interview.

Speaking on The Venture Podcast with Lambros Photios, he said: "I will always take you on a tour in one of our kitchens and you will always end up having a drink.

"Then we go back to that, have our talk, and one of the things I'm always looking for at the end of the interview is this: Does the person who did this interview want to bring that empty cup back to the kitchen?

"You can develop skills, gain knowledge and experience but it really depends on the attitude and the attitude we are talking about a lot is the concept of" wash your cup of coffee "."

If you propose to bring your cup back into the kitchen, Trent will consider you as a job.

Those who are not are immediately blacklisted.

Trent continued, "If you enter the office one day inside Xero, you will see that the kitchens are almost always clean and sparkling and that the concept of washing your cup of coffee is utterly out of place.

"It's just a question of making sure that they fit well into Xero's culture and take care of everything they should do."

This really comes from the attitude, and the attitude we are talking about a lot is the concept of "wash your cup of coffee"
