The Director General of Weija Gbawe Municipality, Patrick Kumor, indicated that plans were underway to mitigate the effects of the Weija Dam spill.
This follows a recent announcement by the Ghana Water Company Limited that it would start pouring excess water from the dam as part of a common safety measure.
This helps to ensure that the water is kept below the safe operating level of the dam to prevent it from collapsing.
Over the years, the exercise has been characterized by flooding and destruction of homes along the waterway. Parick Kumor, of Citi News MCE, said the rally had started dredging mbades of water in some areas to avoid flooding.
"The NADMO members are on the ground while I talk to you. They sensitize people and create an awareness of the spill and those we have to move from these places will be moved. We started dredging about two weeks ago because we knew it was going to happen. We have dredged areas like Weija, Tetegu, Oblogo and parts of McCarthy Hill, just to make sure we fix it. "

If you go to the Tetegu Bridge right now, there is a machine that is picking up the Densu for the first time. We may not be able to complete the entire process before the spill. We believe we have taken a number of steps to ensure that the resulting damage will not be excessive like last year, "he said.
Communities likely to be affected include: Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, McCarthy Lower Hill, Lower Weija, Bojo Beach, Ada Kope, Tsokome and surrounding communities.
Homeowners and residents are encouraged to evacuate or take immediate precautionary measures to protect life and property.
In 2016, a number of communities in the Weija Dam in Ga South Township were submerged as a result of the GWCL dam spill.
Communities such as Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Weija, Bojo Beach and Ada Kokpe were flooded, while others, including Glefe and Opetekwei, were also seriously affected.
