Mahama urges NADMO to speed up relief in flooded areas

Former President John Mahama urged the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to accelerate relief in areas affected by the floods.

Regardless of the help provided by the disaster management agency, it will greatly help to rebadure and relax the affected residents, said the former president on Sunday, June 2.

The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2020 was in touch with the victims of the flood last week around the "Ghost Sahara" near Odawna in Accra. He comforted those who suffered from floods caused by heavy rains.

Heavy rains last week flooded many parts of the capital.

He noted that the situation could be serious "if we do not accelerate drainage efforts", as weather authorities have predicted further rainfall.

"We urge the authorities not to give up because they continue to unblock the drainage so that water can flow when the rains come," he said.

Addressing residents, the former president also encouraged communities to maintain a clean environment to prevent a possible outbreak of cholera after the floods.

Former President Zanetor Rawlings, accompanied by MK Klortey Korley, said: "One of the major consequences of the floods is the possibility of a cholera outbreak and we do not want to see cholera in this place."

Earlier, members of the opposition party led by their parliamentarian had organized a cleansing exercise in the neighborhoods of Sraha Ghetto, Odawna and Adabraka and had cleared debris from the houses.

They also provided tricycles that carried garbage to landfills at no cost to residents.
