Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia called on the Saboba and Chereponi people to put aside their differences and live in harmony with each other.
Accompanied by the Minister of the Interior, the Honorable Ambrose Dery; MPP Oppong Boanuh; The Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Kwame Asuah Takyi; the ministers of the northern, savannah and northeastern regions and other senior officials, the vice president visited the chief Saboba chief, Bowan John Mateer Sakojim IV, and the regent of Chereponi, Jaminja Ndakar Malba, Monday, June 3, 2019, and urged both leaders to help solve the problems that have led to sporadic disruption in recent times.
Police confirmed the death of one person as a result of further clashes between Konkombas and Anufos around Chereponi and Saboba. A number of people were also injured to varying degrees, while efforts were under way to restore peace.
Vice President Bawumia, who is in the Northeast region on the last day of the 2019 edition of his Ramadan National Tour, pointed out that only the inhabitants of Saboba and Chereponi, mainly Konkombas and Anufos, better known as Chekosis, can bring lasting peace, adding that the conflict deprives ordinary citizens in the region of the opportunity to benefit from many development programs implemented by the government.
"If there is a peace so necessary for the development of this country, if there is peace, there will be peace between the two peoples, the Konkombas and the Chekosis. And I know that when the supreme leader of Saboba speaks, the Konkombas listen; when KOYA (Konkomba Youth Association) speaks, listen to the young people. I am therefore one of the happiest people to be in this palace today to listen to the Lord as he spoke these words of peace and the search for peace in this country between Konkombas and Chekosis.
"It makes me so happy. Honestly, I look forward to picking up the phone with the President to tell him what just happened here this morning. This is good news for Ghana: as the president of KOYA says, "when we say we stopped, we stopped." These are very pleasant words. "
Vice President Bawumia praised the efforts of the Supreme Leader of Saboba to meet the Chereponi Regent to discuss ways to achieve lasting peace.
"What we need to focus on is not taking peace for granted. We work on peace. We must also fight for peace and we must continue. I greatly appreciate the efforts of the supreme leader here to also meet the regent in Chereponi to enable him to work together for peace. That's what makes it really durable; that both people have to sit together, and I am sure that once we get back to Accra, based on the information we receive, the president will also call both parties to go to Jubilee House to that we & # 39; I will talk a little more about peace. It's very, very important, "he said.
Vice President Bawumia announced that the police council had decided to create and equip police stations in Saboba and Chereponi to further strengthen peace.
"We will work together and we will strive for peace because it is very important. We will talk to all parties – the WFD and the security services – to make sure that we are all one people and that we must live in peace together.
Bowan John Mateer Sakojim IV, supreme leader of Saboba, and Charles Nyojah, president of the Konkomba Youth Association, had previously pledged to end the conflict and to establish a lasting peace. Chereponi regent Jaminja Ndakar Malba, for his part, thanked the government for reacting quickly to the latest violence and preventing it from escalating. The inhabitants of Chereponi, he said, are ready to live in peace with everyone.
