Marcello Lippi says he will leave for the second time if he does not guide ambitious China to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The winner of the 71-year-old Italian World Cup is back as China's coach just four months after his departure.
But with the qualification for Qatar 2022 starting in September, the veteran under pressure has little time to lose if he wants to inspire China to its second participation in the World Cup.
"Will we qualify for the Qatar World Cup? I do not know, we will try, we will do everything we can," said the former coach of Juventus, Inter Milan , Naples and Italy to CCTV5 channel.
"If we can do it, it's good, if we can not, I'll kiss all the Chinese and go home," he said in his first comments on the substance since the confirmation of his return last week.
"It's a job, it's life – that uses all the pbadion, all the enthusiasm, all the experience to try to do one thing, but the end result can be success or failure."
The Italian, who was speaking before the friendly match at home against the Philippines on Friday, said he had refused to extend his contract with the Chinese Football Federation (CFA) after his 3- loss. 0 against Iran in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup. in January.
But Lippi remained popular in China, where it was acknowledged that he did not have enough team to progress.
"After staying at home for three or four months, I realized that the appreciation and expectation of China was so important, so I decided to give something in back, "he said in an interview Monday.
"I have not made a long-term commitment because it makes no sense, our goal is Qatar in 2022."
Guangzhou Evergrande coach Fabio Cannavaro, captain of Lippi when Italy won the 2006 World Cup, took over from his mentor earlier this year.
Cannavaro, however, lost his two matches as head of the national team, which ranks 74th in the FIFA world rankings, and has resigned.
Under President Xi Jinping, a fan of football, China has great ambitions to organize and win a World Cup.
