Consumer price growth in South Korea remained below 1% for the fifth consecutive month, reflecting weak consumer and investor sentiment.
According to Statistics Korea, consumer prices rose slightly by 0 to 7 percent in May, well below the Bank of Korea's target of 2 percent.
The agency attributed weak inflation to weak domestic demand … and falling petroleum product prices compared to the same period last year.
Analysts believe that if inflation remains low, consumer spending and private investment could suffer.
