GROVE CITY, Ohio (AP) – According to health officials in Ohio, 10 people have now been diagnosed with legionellosis during an outbreak in a newly opened hospital near Columbus.
The Franklin County Department of Health announced that seven people had been hospitalized, including one patient who died Sunday.
The Mount Carmel Health System states that the hospital is working with state and county health officials to identify the source of the bacteria in Mount Carmel Grove City.
Public health officials said the first patient who was diagnosed with legionnaires was admitted to the hospital on April 29, the day after it was opened.
People are infected with the severe form of pneumonia by inhalation of water droplets in the air containing Legionella bacterium.
