President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo promised that his government would soon submit a final position on a possible ban on plastic manufacturing in the country.
The debate over a possible ban on plastics was strongly raised in the first year of Akufo Addo's government.
Local plastic manufacturers, however, warned the government of the consequences of a total ban.
Speaking at a forum where he hosted the Norwegian Prime Minister in Accra, President Akufo-Addo said that the government would "very soon" announce a position on this matter.
A group of citizens recently asked President Nana Akufo-Addo to ban plastics progressively.
The group, the Alliance of Green Lawyers, urged the president to begin the ban by September 2019.
The group, in a petition, said the ban would be a proof of the government 's commitment to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
