FaceTime for Mac is pretty cool, but lacks spice. As Chatroulette has amply proven, the thrill of cold video calling strangers randomly is really piquant. Who will search? A teenage girl picking her nose? A throbbing erection with wide eyes stuck on the glans? A dirty puppet? If only FaceTime could match this degree of titillation!
Well, now it can, thanks to an enterprising programmer named Zach Holman, who threw together Facelette. This is essentially Chatroulette for FaceTime, which badociates two random people via a FaceTime connection.
It's fun – well, fun if you like Chatroulette or if you do not know anyone with whom to test the beta version of FaceTime for Mac – but it's not really secure. Anonymity is not at stake here: once Facelette has badociated you with another user, he will be able to see your email address and / or phone number, as they might during a normal FaceTime call.
This is reason enough to be wary: you certainly do not want this scary guy you are connected to randomly calling you suddenly at all hours of the night. On the other hand, the lack of anonymity could be enough to maintain a semblance of clbad on Facelette, long absent from Chatroulette. Again, this probably misses the point: the whole idea of Chatroulette is an anonymous video conversation that is free of clbadic doctrines of decency.
