Raheem Sterling admitted that he was furious to discover that his management company had revealed that he would be captain of England on Thursday night against the Netherlands.
Colossal Sports Management said in a statement that Sterling would be given the armband on the occasion of its 50th participation for his country.
England and Gareth Southgate gave no indication of the captain's choice and asked why his management company had disclosed this information. Sterling replied, "I can not tell you anything, to be honest, I woke up this morning while smoking.
