Ricky Hatton reacts to the appearance of Tommy Fury on Love Island 2019

Ricky Hatton is confident in Tommy Fury's return to boxing after Love Island, calling his arrival a fighter in the "perfect timing" series.

The heavyweight – younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury – has beaten twice since his professional career and has won both his fights.

He beat Latvian Jevgenijs Andrejevs to points in his debut in December, before defeating Callum Ide in his second fight in March.

However, the 20-year-old is taking a break from the ring to participate in the popular ITV2 reality show, which takes place on the Spanish island of Majorca.

And Hatton, who trains Fury, admits that he was not surprised by this decision and thinks his fighter has what it takes to win until the end of the competition.

"When he came to coach me for the first time, I told him that with his appearance, he should be at Love Island and, with my appearance, I could do treasure island" Hatton told BBC Sport.

"I must say I did not have the habit of watching Love Island, but now that Tommy is here, we're going to listen to the rest of the guys I train at the gym."

"I think he can win thanks to what I have seen so far."

Although Fury can stay on the show for up to eight weeks, Hatton is confident that his fighter will ensure he stays in shape and he does not expect this break to impact his career.

"I did not need to give Tommy any advice to stay in shape," added the 40-year-old.

"You can see on his physique that he supports himself.

"I'm sure he's going to train while he's in the series – but he's in secret, so I do not know."

"Tommy will continue with his boxing.The sport is calming down during the summer, so being on Love Island is a perfect timing.

"It should not affect his training too much." As soon as he gets back to the gym, we'll work on his next fight, but until then, I just have to see how he's doing.

Manager Frank Warren also supported Fury's decision to participate in the show and believes it is a great opportunity to raise his profile and "out of the shadows" of his older brother.

"It's going to come out of Tyson's shadow, that's certain with respect to recognition," Warren told BBC Sport.

"The British public will certainly know who they are, which has been great for their profile.

"He's still boxing – and I hope he'll do it, that will improve his profile, he'll become more of an attraction, sell more tickets, more notoriety around him and that's all he'll do." is great for any promotion. "
