Security forces are hunting gunmen who kidnapped two Canadian nationals in Ghana's Ashantian regional capital.

The unidentified band reportedly arrested and reunited the two men under gun threat at approximately 8:30 am on Silver Spring Avenue, in the vicinity of the city of Vienna, a popular pub in Kumasi.

One of the victims was identified only as Lauren and is in Ghana with her other colleague as part of a program of exchange with the Department of Entrepreneurship. Kumasi Technical University (KsTU).

The media suggest that the Canadian Embbady is working with the Ghanaian police to locate the victims.

It is unclear, however, whether the kidnappers contacted the victims' family or the Canadian Embbady for ransom.

Police sources confirmed the incident to the GH Daily Mail.

Indian kidnapped in Kumasi

Kumasi seems to be gaining notoriety in the new wave of kidnappings targeting strangers.

In April of this year, a 30-year-old Indian man was kidnapped by gunmen who claimed a $ 500,000 ransom after sending pictures of the victim to his family, a weapon in his head.

He was later rescued in Parkoso, in the municipality of Asokore-Mampong, by a team of policemen with the help of telcos.
