The staff of the Suame Electrical Distribution Business Unit in Kumasi has arrested and handed over an electrician to the police for alleged illegal installation of electricity meters.
The suspect, Seth Largo, has since been turned over to the Suame police for further investigation.
He was arrested Monday morning while he was going to the PDS office in Suame to get help in order to connect some electricity meters that he had installed to the main system of the PDS so that they generate monthly bills.
Briefing the Daily Graphic in Kumasi, PDS Regional Public Relations Manager for Ashanti, Mr Erasmus Kyere-Baidoo, said that Suame's EDR staff suspected a criminal act since the installation and the the meter connection had been badigned to some could come to the center for such an exercise.
The public relations officer said the suspect was a staff member of a private electricity company. Prepaid company Smart G, to whom PDS had entrusted the installation of a number of meters and the processing of their documents for their connection to the national billing system.
He said the staff became suspicious when he approached them to connect some meters that he had installed and had resulted in his arrest.
Mr. Kyere-Baidoo congratulated the Suame EDR staff for their extreme vigilance in the arrest of the suspect. He lamented the numerous incidents related to such illegal transactions in the region and pledged to work very hard to ensure that they resist the act so that mental health prevails in the power supply sector.
