The Ghana Conference of Charismatic Bishops has opposed a call to legislate in the country's churches.

This legislation should logically extend to the way in which Muslims, traditional healers, bad priests and all other religions are practiced in the country, "the statement said.

According to the Conference of Charismatic Bishops, Ghanaians should be allowed and encouraged to use judgment when sponsoring churches and prophets.

Problems

The statement said it was important to note that Ghanaians have sponsored churches and prophets to find solutions to the country's myriad of problems.

He said that "the problems that Ghanaians face are often not solved in a practical way by the authorities.

When people are hopeless, they turn to their prophets and their God for salvation of what should and could have been solved by the national authorities. "

The PNDC Law 221 was promulgated for these purposes in order to regulate the proliferation of churches.

Under the PNDC Act 221, each church had to establish a list of 500 members or it would not be allowed to operate because it was considered too small to be authentic.

"Such a law (which did not succeed) against the church would have erased all known charismatic churches that began at that time.

Indeed, the churches that occupy an important place in Christianity in Ghana today have been threatened by legislation as badly placed, "the statement said.

Pay attention

The statement also urged Parliament to look at the country's roads, drainage and education.

He also challenged the government to provide resources to supplement hospitals that had not been used to promote quality health care.

He also urged Parliament to help find a solution to unfinished housing projects in the country.

"The spread of slums in Accra and huge garbage dumps in the city is also of great concern.

"Laws to regulate the spread of these slums in the city" should be considered.

"Indeed, any attempt to regulate or determine who and what is acceptable in Christianity or in the church would be considered a statement of hostilities between the Church of God in Ghana and the Government of Ghana.

Context

The Conference of Charismatic Bishops of Ghana is composed of prominent members of the clergy, men and women of the ministry of Jesus Christ, consecrated as bishops.
