Government gives 109 more vehicles to police

On Thursday, June 6, 2019, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of Ghana, handed the Ghana Police Service 109 multipurpose vehicles including buses, tow trucks, tankers, ambulances, trucks and vans.

The presentation, which took place at the police headquarters in Accra, is part of the government's efforts to reorganize the police service as part of the on-going police transformation program led by the Inspector General of Accra. the police David Asante-Apeatu (IGP).

Before the presentation, Dr. Bawumia indicated in a brief remark that the government had received a bill of lading for an additional 109 vehicles that would arrive in the country in the next three months.

"As soon as he took office, we were frankly surprised by the magnitude of the logistical problems the police were facing in terms of logistics and equipment, which is why the president put the money in the line. stressing that we must do everything in our power to ensure that the necessary logistics in terms of vehicles, equipment, ammunition, etc., are adequately provided, "said Dr Bawumia.

He added, "It is for this reason that you are witnessing this significant increase in the supply of vehicles to the Ghana Police Service".

So far, since 2017, according to the vice president, the government has presented 481 vehicles to the police department. He further explained that the President was of the opinion that those who had joined the service had put their lives at risk for Ghana and that, therefore, "Mother Ghana had to provide the police service with adequate logistics for protect and defend the security of the nation ".

On October 26, 2018, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented 200 Toyota Camry sedan vehicles to police in front of the police headquarters and pledged that the executive body of the government would offer all its support to the police to enable them to fulfill their policing duties. To this end, Nana Akufo-Addo said that the government will continue to mobilize all possible badistance to enable the police to provide the people of Ghana with the type of service that citizens deserve.

"Ultimately, the government's goal is to strengthen the police force and turn it into an honest, disciplined, effective and robust force," the president said in the previous presentation.
