Seagate's memory specialist now also offers its 16-TB capacity Exos and IronWolf Series Helium Hard Drives. While the new Exos hard drives are intended for the corporate sector, IronWolf series hard drives have been designed for NAS systems.

The Exos X16 hard drive is available with an optional SATA or SAS 6Gb / s connection. The 3.5-inch hard drive runs at 7200 rpm and should provide a peak bit rate of 261 MB / s. In addition, there is a cache of 256 MB, the power consumption is between 5 and 10 watts (standby / maximum power). Seagate offers the model a 5 year warranty. The manufacturer indicates that the average time of operation between failures (MTBF) is 2.5 million hours.

With this additional capacity, Seagate promises to reduce the total cost of ownership of cloud data centers and similar badets requiring a lot of storage. Compared to previous 12TB models, the new Exos X16 hard drive provides 33% more memory per rack. You can reach a maximum of about 12.8 PByte with the hard drive in a single 42-U rack.

IronWolf (Pro): 16 GB for NAS systems

Meanwhile, IronWolf and IronWolf Pro 16TB plates are specifically designed for use in multi-user NAS environments in small businesses. Helium hard disks differ only in the details of the Enterprise counterpart according to the data sheets. Although the size, speed, and cache are the same, the data rates are 210 and 250 MB / s (Pro) lower respectively. The MTBF also has some disadvantages, which Seagate attributes to 1 million and 1.2 million hours, respectively. The manufacturer's warranty covers IronWolf hard drives for 3 years, while Pro models last 5 years.

Seagate has not yet announced pricing for each storage solution. The Exos X16 hard drive should already be available in Germany. When the big IronWolf hard disk drives are already installed in this country, the manufacturer has not communicated.
