According to Business Insider, Tesla recently announced in a message posted on its official account by Weibo that it would provide 0% financing and a license plate rental service to Beijing customers.
Tu Le, the founder of Sino Auto Insights, a Beijing-based consulting firm, told Business Insider that the rental of license plates in the area was "technically illegal".
Chinese state media published an article in which they questioned the legality of the offer made by Tesla to the country's customers and suggested that the authorities investigate the company.
This recent development is another sign that Tesla still faces challenges in navigating the Chinese market.
