Police said the situation was under control
A curfew was imposed in Bole Township, in the Savannah area, as a result of chieftaincy-related violence that tainted the Ain celebrations on Thursday.
The unrest began when local youths invaded the place of prayer, after the imam supposed to lead the prayers refused to play his role because of the leadership conflict between two factions.
This resulted in the burning of two houses and a van.
Sending to Citi News, North Region Police Command's public relations officer, DSP Yussif Tanko, said the situation was under control.
"If you remember, the Bole Chief died last year and his replacement has sparked a lot of controversy. Bole is very calm this morning and also last night.
Context
There were tensions in the traditional Bole area in 2017 as a result of fears of violence after the death of Supreme Leader Awuladese Pontomprong Mahama (II) on May 31, 2017.
Tensions were linked to supporters of two rival leaders from Mandari, a prominent community within the traditional region where the chiefs succeeded Bole Skin.
The relationship between Bole's rule and Ndewura Jakpa's palace would have deteriorated when the Yagbonwura refused to accept and recognize an Abdulai Issahaku Kant named by Bolewura as Mandari's chief.
The Yagbonwura reportedly ignored the makers of King Bole and also named an Abubakari Abutu mandari chief, establishing two brothers from the same safope portal against themselves.
