Accra, June 6, GNA – The Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) in partnership with the National Development Plan
Commission (NDPC) developed the framework of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP)
which will guide and advance Ghana in its adaptation to climate change.

The NAP document, which was developed, with
funding from the US Country Support Program, managed by
International Institute for Sustainable Development, should provide
a general framework to guide the country in the development, coordination and
implement the process of adaptation.

The frame also offers a more
sectoral approach to planning for adaptation to climate change in the country,
with the EPA coordinating the development of a comprehensive NAP and with
identified adaptation priorities for key sectors such as agriculture, forestry,
water, energy, gender and health.

The EPA as the main coordinator of the PAN
had organized a media engagement day to deepen media understanding
framework and to solicit support for raising awareness
stakeholders on the NAP process.

Dr. Antwi-Boasiako Amoah, Program Manager
Agent, Climate Vulnerabilities and Adaptation, EPA, said through the
engagement, media attention was drawn to climate issues
change and the importance of the master plan to cope with adaptation
long-term problems.

He said that the process of developing the
adaptation plan, sponsored by the Global Climate Fund (GCF), would begin

change, saying that the county have over the years responded to emergencies
via NADMO, but good planning for adaptation would involve early warning
systems, and shelters for evacuation, among others.

"So, in the frame, we captured
Ghana's vision for adaptation to climate change, our main
goal was also captured, we also captured the areas we want
focus on and then we also captured the key stakeholders we want to be
with.

"We also touched on key principles such as
as principles of indigenous knowledge blending knowledge of the
traditional systems to the scientific community ".

He said that Ghana was about three years old to
complete the development of the adaptation plan, which was underway

Over the next 36 months, EPA would be busy with adaptation planning
problems.

Professor Kwame Karikari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of
Graphic Communications Group, urged the media to pay particular attention to the
the issues of climate change and the environment in general, so that they could not
educate the public about best practices, but also expose illicit practices
individuals and institutions that have a negative impact on the environment.
