Images of the two abducted Canadian women appeared in Kumasi as security agencies prepared to save them.

Lauren Patricia Catherine Tilley, 19, and Bailey Jordan Chitty, 20, both volunteer students in Ghana for Youth Challenge International, an international development organization, were reportedly abducted Tuesday night and taken to an unknown destination by gunmen.

The kidnappers had ambushed young women in an alley of Ahodwo-Nhyiaeso, near the Royal Gulf Club of Kumasi, while they were returning from a food seal in an Uber car.

They were bundled up in a Toyota Camry sedan and were taken out after getting out of the car to get to their hostel located at Silver Spring Avenue.

Meanwhile, Canada's Tourism Information Guide has warned Canadians in Ghana against violent crime in the country.

In a tweet of June 5, 2019, the guide warned Canadians that they could be subjected to violent crime such as kidnapping and armed robbery during their stay in the country, urging them to become aware of their environment and to avoid to walk alone or to show signs of wealth.
