Juan Mata pondered his future after being officially offered a new deal to stay at Manchester United.
Mata, 31, is a free agent this summer and his father and agent Juan Senior claims to have received offers from various clubs in the Champions League, including his homeland, Spain.
United wants the popular playmaker to extend his five-and-a-half-year stay at Old Trafford and has confirmed he has granted an extension.
Mata, which cost Chelsea £ 37.1 million in January 2014, only made 16 Premier League appearances last season and evaluate its options.
The club confirmed its decision Friday by announcing the list of its released players, which included the popular duo Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera.
During his time with the Red Devils, the winner of the European Championship Mata helped his team win four trophies, including the Europa League in 2017.
However, last season, the 31-year-old struggled to have as much influence on games as in previous campaigns.
Despite a disappointing campaign, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to want to hold control of the influential Spanish.
It remains to be seen whether Mata will commit to a new contract in Manchester, and he was previously linked to a return to Spain.
It is thought that Atletico Madrid is one of the clubs looking to get the World Cup winner's signature as Diego Simeone tries to strengthen his options.
