Three hospital patients died after eating pre-packaged sandwiches contaminated with listeria, Public Health England reported.

Two of the patients died at the Royal Manchester Infirmary. The third death occurred at the NHS Foundation Trust at Aintree University Hospital.

In total, six hospitalized patients who were seriously ill in both hospitals contracted listeria sandwiches.

The NHS Foundation Trust of the University of Manchester stated that she "presented her most heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families". He added that the sandwiches came from the patient's menu and that those who could have been affected had been removed.
