In the sinister wedding of Khloe Kardashian with Lamar Odom

Khloe Kardahsian's marriage to Lamar Odom was not the drama of reality TV for viewers – but something much more sinister.

In 2009, the 34-year-old star of Kardashians first met NBA star Lamar at a nightclub and a flash romance followed.

A month after this meeting, Lamar had proposed to Khloe, then aged 24, and nine days later, they married in a special edition of the reality show Kardashians.

While the new couple was "literally inseparable", according to Kim Kardashian, Khloe's sister, with a reality show – Khloe & Lamar – telling the story between 2011 and 2012,

But not everything was as rosy as described.

In fact, Khloe found herself trapped in a marriage that was shattered by Lamar's well-known drug addiction and his constant infidelity.

While she suspected what was going on with Lamar, she was not to discover the true extent of the depths that Lamar had plunged later.

In 2016, Khloe told her husband Howard Stern: "The love is blind … Lamar was so good at making me feel like I was the only one and I'm that princess." I never speculated on cheating … so did not know cheating.

"It's humiliating at all levels, but I found out he was cheating on the majority of our marriage, I did not know it."

Lamar himself wrote in his memoirs Darkness to Light that he had fought many demons at the time.

He revealed: "[I had] paranoia, anxiety, depression. I could not keep my bad in my pants or the coke out of my nose.

"Drug addicts are incredibly good at hiding their habit, I would be on the defensive and Khloe would drop."

Khloe did not inquire of her family about the veracity of her marriage at the time.

She even remained silent when Lamar disappeared for 72 hours at the height of her cheating and drug addiction, baduring that this period was not recorded for KUWTK cameras.

A month before the divorce petition, Khloe revealed for the first time that a darker force was manifesting at work in her marriage.

Khloe said at the time: "Lamar is going through a very difficult time lately, and it's not just black on white." There are a lot of emotional issues.

"It's really scary when nothing really works and then you know, if you give up, no one in your life will be able to help you."

The audience finally got a glimpse of the extent of the demons in Lamar's life when he was found unconscious in an almost fatal overdose in a Las Vegas brothel.

The publication of Lamar's memoirs revealed that details of her troubled marriage with Khloe had been revealed and that this showed that she was living in fear of what might happen thereafter.

Lamar retreated to his "men's cave" and took ecstasy and coke, before grabbing golf clubs to "destroy the microphones in the wall."

Khloe would call one of his friends to help him intervene, but that would end up with Lamar "attacking" his wife by fleeing and grabbing her by the shoulders.

Lamar shouted in his face, "What are you doing crazy?"

He would say to Khloe, "Are you trying to embarrbad me in front of my friends, I'm going to kill you, you do not know what I'm capable of!"

Reflecting on that moment, years later, Lamar admitted, "I was embarrbaded and ashamed.

"It was a new hollow for our relationship and my life … the most regrettable moment of a series of regrettable moments."

The pair divorced in 2016 but this was postponed from the previous year as Khloe helped Lamar recover from his overdose.
