The president of the African Football Confederation (Caf) Ahmad has been released without charge "at this stage".
Prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux of the French city of Marseille added that "Ahmad" was questioned in connection with an investigation into cases of corruption, breach of trust and falsification.
Thursday, FIFA confirmed that Ahmad was questioned by the French authorities.
At the time, an instance of the World Football Federation said that it was "allegations relating to his term as CAF president".
"FIFA is not aware of the details of this investigation and is therefore unable to comment on it."
"FIFA asks the French authorities for any information that may be of interest for investigations within its ethics committee."
