NEW YORK (WCBS / CNN) – New York City is attacking ice cream trucks.

The NYPD said it was focusing on companies and drivers who had found ways to avoid paying millions of dollars in traffic fines.
In all, 46 ice trucks are seized by the city.
Trucks are generally known for their sweet treats and the smiles that ensue, not for running red lights, parking in front of standpipes and blocking pedestrian crossings.
"It's terrible because if kids run to the ice cream trucks without stopping, neither at the stoplight nor at the stop sign, they could get crushed," said Bryan Tejada , from Long Island City.
Mayor Bill De Blasio's office said 46 truckers were doing exactly that and then tried to avoid fines of $ 4.5 million.
"It's not just money, it's the deterrent," said Sheriff Joseph Fucito in New York. "The convocations have a chilling effect.If there is no deterrence, there is no reason to comply with the rules of the road."
