The dream vacation of a couple was canceled after the stop of the trade by a tour operator

A couple "does not stop crying" after canceling his dream vacation because his tour operator had stopped his activities.

Hazel Kirkland and Paul Nesham were due to fly to Cuba later this month for a two-week break with Holiday Place.

But when the London-based tour operator ceased operations, the Stoke-on-Trent couple found themselves without a vacation and lost £ 4,000.

Now the couple has paid an additional £ 1,800 for a week's holiday in Cyprus, the Stoke Sentinel reported.

Because of her stress, Hazel, who suffers from depression, needs additional medications.

At age 51, he said: "We had booked the holiday last August and had been expecting it since, and then someone wrote on Facebook that The Holiday Place had stopped its activities.

"Then I turned to Miss Marple and tried to go to The Holiday Place's website without success and when I tried to call them, I had no joy.

"I was so devastated that I could not stop crying.

"I suffer from mental illness as it is and I did not know what was going on.

"I was really stressed because we could not talk to anyone.

"I had to go to the doctor to get more medicine."

Although their return flights from Manchester Airport were booked by Thomas Cook and were not affected by the collapse of The Holiday Place, the accommodation was canceled.

Just two weeks before realizing that their travel plans were in shambles, Paul, 57, had paid £ 500 for an upgrade overlooking the ocean.

Potter Hazel added, "We called the hotel and they said they were not paid for the room and we had to pay 100 Cuban pesos per night per person.

"It's £ 90 each night for 14 nights and over £ 2,500.

"They said we also had to pay in cash, but we can not carry so much money to Cuba.

"I was in a good state.

"I was totally inconsolable, it's heartbreaking."

Hazel is concerned that other people may not be aware of the death of The Holiday Place.

She added: "To recover our money, we will have to go through ATOL, but we do not know how long it will take.

"I'm afraid that people who go to their destination are not announced vacation and find themselves stuck.

"It 's not fair to me and my half working all year for one day a year and it' s not fair for other people who will be traveling in the next few weeks.

The holiday location could not be contacted for comment.
