France, world champion, sank Saturday against Turkey in qualifying at Euro 2020, in a hot atmosphere in Konya.
Kaan Ayhan led Turkey half-time and Cengiz Under shot one second before half-time to give the hosts a first win against France.
Didier Deschamps has lined up nine of the players who started the World Cup final last year, but France struggled to create opportunities, while Hugo Lloris beat Turkey several times.
"It was a slap for us and there is not much to say," Deschamps told TF1.
"We have a different challenge on Tuesday and I must say congratulations to Turkey, we have to go back to basics."
"When you play like that at the collective level, you can not get anything positive from the game.
"We did not play the necessary match against a team that played its game. It's a high-level football and it's the same, whether we're world champion or no."
The victory allowed Turkey to take the lead in group H with three points ahead of France after the Senol Gunes team's victory for the third time in as many outings.
They will continue their qualifying campaign in Iceland on Tuesday as France expects a return to their trip to Andorra.
