ISTANBUL: France, world champion, had a cold shower on Saturday during a Euro 2020 qualifier against Turkey, which kept up the pressure throughout the match for a home win 2-0 and s is placed at the top of Group H.
Turkey started the match in force, scoring its first goal in the 30th minute with a header from Kaan Ayhan following Cengiz Under's free kick in the box.
Under then brought the ball closer in the 40th minute by pbading the ball to Hugo Lloris after a sprint on the right wing that led to the French goal.
The Blues increased the pressure in the second half of the match, but missed several scoring opportunities due to strong defense from their opponents and strong performance from goalkeeper Mert Gunok.
Burak Yilmaz missed an opportunity to give the advantage to Turkey in the 85th minute, pbading the ball very close to the right post after a face to face with Lloris.
Iceland won Saturday's 1-0 home win against Albania, while Moldova beat Andorra 1-0 at home.
Turkey are now leading Group H with nine points after winning all three matches. They are followed by France and Iceland, both with six points.
