Susanna Reid meets a murderer on death row who refuses to apologize for the triple murder

Susanna Reid came face-to-face with a triple murderer convicted of murdering his wife's family.

The Good Morning Britain presenter was shocked by Billie Wayne Coble's lack of remorse a few days before his execution.

Coble had spent 30 years on death row after his wife's parents, Robert and Zelda Vicha, and their son, Bobby, were shot in Texas in August 1989.

But when Susanna, 48, asked what he thought horrible murders, Coble, 70, just smiled.

"For some people, it matters," he said.

"For me, it does not really matter anymore."

And he would not apologize to the family.

"OK, if you want me to make repeated excuses, for example, I mean, I've already said I regretted what had happened," he said.

"Now, I completely regret what happened, but I also regret a lot of things in life."

In February, former electrician Coble became the oldest inmate executed by Texas since the resumption of capital punishment in 1982.

His touching interview with Susanna is part of the ITV document Death Row: The Countdown to Execution. In the two-part series, the presenter addresses a variety of death row inmates.

But most, including Coble, say that they are not afraid to die.

"It depends on how long a person has ever lived in. The longer you have lived, the easier it is to accept death," said the veteran of the Vietnam War.

The grandfather was convicted of aggravated murder in 1990, after shooting the family of his ex-wife.

Prosecutors said that Coble, upset by his pending divorce, had abducted his wife, Karen Vicha.

He was arrested and released on bail.

Nine days after the abduction, Coble went to Karen Vicha's home, where he handcuffed and tied his three daughters and J.R. Vicha.

He then went to the home of Robert and Zelda Vicha, aged 64 and 60 respectively, and Bobby Vicha, 39, who lived nearby, and shot them.
