Tyson Foods recalls 95 tons of chicken donuts as they could contain hard plastic, USDA announced Friday. The donuts were sold to some schools who reported the problem.
Boxes of "fully cooked golden crispy whole grain chicken fritters" were shipped to food service outlets and were not sold in retail stores. Tyson has received three school complaints after finding plastic in chicken donuts, the USDA announced. No case of injury related to consumption of the recalled donuts has been reported.
Although some schools got donuts through commercial sales, the USDA says it was not part of the food provided as part of the national school meal program.
The USDA fears that the donuts recalled are still in the freezers of food services.
