Karnataka said Monday a holiday and will mourn the next three days to pay tribute to award-winning playwright Jnanpith Girish Karnad, who died early this morning.

The last sacraments of Karnad will be celebrated with all honors, said Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy in a statement. "Karnad will receive the same honors from the government as the other winners of the Jnanpith Award," he said.

During national mourning, the national flag will be half-masted at the top of all government buildings and there will be no official entertainment program.
