Ferland Mendy ready for the real shot, says coach of France, Deschamps

(Reuters) – France coach Didier Deschamps said on Monday that Olympique Lyonnais' back halfback, Ferland Mendy, would join Real Madrid.

According to the Spanish media, Real would have agreed to pay 55 million euros to Mendy, who made 79 appearances for Lyon since leaving Le Havre in 2017.

"Two years ago he was in the second division and he will play Real Madrid now," Deschamps told reporters before France's qualifier against Andorra on Tuesday.

"He can play on both sides and his development is magnificent."

Real Madrid refused to comment.

Mendy would become Real's fourth major signing in the transfer window, after strikers Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic, as well as defender Eder Militao, as the Spaniards sought to rebuild after a disappointing campaign, seeing them end without a trophy.
