MTN staff begins construction of a dormitory for women's action group vocational training institute

The staff of the major telecommunications providers, MTN, is building a state-of-the-art dormitory block for the Women's Action Group Professional Training Institute in Accra.

The construction of the facility is one of many projects undertaken by staff as part of this year's "21 Days of Yellow Care" initiative.

This campaign is an employee volunteering initiative launched by MTN Ghana in 2007 and aims to gain strong participation from staff and partners in their local communities.

Selorm Adadevoh, President and CEO of MTN Ghana, told press representatives at the construction site that this year's campaign aims to provide opportunities for Ghanaian youth.

MTN will also organize, alongside the construction of the dormitory, free training courses for some young people in the fields of pearl manufacturing, hairdressing, cosmetics and fashion design.

"This project is part of our 21-day yellow care and this year's theme is to create a better future for our young people. It is important that our staff participate, because if you really want to support the communities in which you operate, it is important that our staff at least for a period of the year. This year, we are working on about three projects and we hope and know that all our staff will be there to support it. "

"The projects are focused on young people. Some of them look at young people who have abused drugs and are struggling. We seek to help those who have mental problems. Building and construction are part of it. But this has focused on the education and support of youth.

Selorm Adadevoh said about the project currently being undertaken by the company: "This is a training in pearl manufacturing, fashion, hairdressing and cosmetics for women. There is also a digital marketing component for training, he said.

At the end of the campaign, at least 50 students will receive training in pearls, hairdressing, cosmetics, fashion design and digital marketing.
