Terrorist threats: we are not fighting against ISIS, Boko Haram; no cause for alarm – Dep. Defense Minister

Retired Major Derrick Oduro, Deputy Minister of Defense, badured Ghanaians of their presence despite a terrorist warning to British nationals traveling to Ghana by the United Kingdom.

According to Major Oduro, the country's security apparatus is well awakened and firmly on the ground to suppress any incident of terrorist attack in Ghana.

Despite his badurances, the Deputy Defense Minister also noted that Ghana was not a target for terrorists because he was not involved in any open confrontation with such groups, so there was no reason to worry.

"We are not fighting ISIS, Boko Haram or other terrorist groups. The security we enjoy in Ghana is extraordinary. The nation is so secure. We have no open confrontation with ISIS, Boko Haram and the others. We are not interested in them, so there is no cause for alarm, "he said in Twi.

Major Derrick Oduro was speaking Monday on Ekosi Sen, of Asempa FM.

The British government's opinion, published on June 7, 2019, warned that "local demonstrations of civil unrest can occur at short notice and become violent (sometimes with weapons)".

The advice was: "If you are in these areas, you must be careful, be careful and follow the advice of the local authorities. If this happens, the local police may impose curfews to contain the situation.

But Major Oduro, reacting to the alert, said that this did not reflect the reality. He noted, however, that security agencies were taking the alert very seriously and had already defined strategies to combat such attacks.
