Nissan wants Renault's approval for its reform plan

Nissan wants to convince its main shareholder, Renault, to support the project of the Japanese company to reform its governance system. Renault has indicated that it could refrain from voting on this plan, which would prevent the reform from progressing.

Nissan President and CEO Hiroto Saikawa told reporters that adopting a new governance structure would be essential. The Japanese builder plans to put the project to the vote at a shareholders' meeting to be held later this month.

Nissan apparently wants to improve management transparency following allegations of wrongdoing by former President Carlos Ghosn.

The French Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, said earlier that a merger between Japanese and French builders was not an absolute necessity. His government is Renault's largest shareholder.

Saikawa said Nissan's top priority remained the same: to strengthen its alliance with Renault in a healthy way.
