Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was advised to sell Simon Mignolet and have Neil Etheridge signed before the new season.
According to WalesOnline, the Reds have identified Cardiff's goalkeeper as an unlikely transfer target.
Mignolet only made two appearances in all Liverpool competitions last season, with the two games competing in cup.
The Belgian blocker should leave Anfield 's club this summer, which would leave Liverpool running out of a quality goal.
And former Reds defenseman, Steve Nicol, thinks not only that Etheridge would perfectly replace Mignolet, he also called on Klopp to actively sell the Belgian for the transfer to take place.
Nicol told ESPN FC: "I think it would be a good signing, I think the 69 goals [Etheridge] to let in, he probably had no chance with 55 of them, let 's be honest.
"Mignolet has to leave, he has to play. You need a substitute who will be happy to be there but of a certain level who, whenever something can happen to Alisson, you will put Etheridge and he's going to do a great job.
"He's going to be a professional, he's not going to make spectacular stops, but you know what you're getting, he's decent with his feet, he's doing all he needs.
"I think it's a good signature. He's 29, he's around, he knows what it's like to play at a lower level to have your feet on the ground."
"He will consider this as follows:" This will solidify the future of my family. If I come to Liverpool for five years, be professional when I am called to do a professional job. "
"I think it's a good move for him and for Liverpool too.You know what you're getting. You're not panicking every time someone comes to your No. 1."
