"Incident jinx" accused of an investigation that reveals NDC MPs get better results

A legislator of the new Patriotic Party (NPP) blamed "the incident of the presidency" for the result of a poll that revealed that parliamentarians for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) s oppose their mandates better.

Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, MPP MP for the Adentan constituency, said Monday night at PM Express this huge expectation of NPP MPs makes their efforts hard to appreciate.

"There is a certain disadvantage related to the occupancy of the seats or a spell. There is some higher expectation of a holder [party’s MP] and there is some pressure on a holder [MP] it's a little less for the opposition, "said Mr Asamoah, also director of the NPP's communication.

Survey

A study conducted by the political science department of the University of Ghana revealed that opposition NDC deputies were better off than their counterparts in the ruling NPP.

Professor Isaac Owusu-Mensah, senior lecturer and head of the research team, explained that the survey aimed to badess the 275 deputies according to their perceptions: it aims to know the opinion voters on the results of their deputies.

Dr. Owusu-Mensah revealed on Adom FM's news program, Hot Questions, On Monday, May 10, 2019, another news program pointed out that the relationship between MPs and chiefs, district leaders (DCEs) and their constituents was also paramount for a legislator's performance.

The head of the research team also explained that five constituencies in each constituency had been selected, while 20 people from that constituency had been interviewed.

According to the findings of the survey, 50.8% of respondents said that the primary responsibility of their MPs was to advocate for development.

According to the survey, 88.7% of those surveyed said their MPs had promised them development, including infrastructure such as schools, roads, hospitals, and so on.

The study also revealed that 44% of respondents said that MPs did not visit their constituency, a factor that played a key role in the ratings. Research indicates, however, that most MPs who do not visit their constituency are MPs for the first time and are mainly in the Greater Accra region.

Dr. Owusu-Mensah declared Hot issues that "the only aspect that NPP MPs have been more successful than NDCs is the relationship between MPs and WFDs, which may be due to the fact that NPP MPs are in government and WFDs are also chosen by government".

The research also revealed that NDC MPs explain government policies better than MPs in the NPP.

"I had to check if that was the case, because I was wondering how the opposition could better explain the government's policy," said Dr. Owusu-Mensah. For his part, Dr. Owusu-Mensah said that "the lowest performing MP is located in the Eastern Region, with less than 10% of individuals, who will be appointed later when the list of the worst MPs will be published. ".
