Scottish unemployment decreases by 3,000

The Scottish unemployment rate fell from 3,000 to 91,000 between April and April, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The unemployment rate now stands at 3.3%, compared to 3.8% in the UK.

The figures also show that UK wage growth exceeds market and economist expectations over the three-month period.

Wages increased by 3.4% over the previous year. After taking into account inflation, wage growth was 1.4%.

The latest quarterly figures show that employment among working-age Scots increased by 22,000 to just over 2.61 million, or an employment rate of 75.9%.

Employment in the United Kingdom increased from 32,000 to 32.7 million, with women's employment rate hitting a record 72%.
