20 national service agents benefit from GH ¢ 400 000 poultry project

The National Service Program (NSS) has launched a GHG 400,000 poultry support project for 20 national service agents as part of its enterprise-building module.

The 20 beneficiaries will receive 20 000 GH ¢ each at the start of their poultry farming projects.

This initiative is a partnership between the NSS and other state agencies such as the Center for Macrofinance and Small Loans (MASLOC), the National Council for Small Industries (NBSSI), the National Program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NEIP) and the National Youth Authority.

The 20 recipients were selected through a competitive process among 500 service personnel who were deployed as part of the initiative and innovation modules of the program.

As part of the partnership, the NSS will be the lead agency that will lead the project, while MASLOC will provide funding to the beneficiaries.

NEIP, NBSSI and NYA should also play a key role in capacity building and beneficiary training programs.

The 20 beneficiaries, who will complete their mandatory national service in August this year, have been invited to a week-long capacity-building workshop to prepare them for the poultry sector.

Nicknamed the Poultry Entrepreneurship Training (PET), the workshop was used to train beneficiaries in poultry farming practices.

Speaking at the closing session of PET in Accra yesterday, NSS Executive Director Mustapha Ussif said the initiative aims to provide sustainable livelihoods for young people.

"We expect every farm to grow to create jobs for at least 50 people in the poultry value chain," he said.

"I want to reiterate that, at NSS, we are focusing our efforts on creating entrepreneurs among the large number of service people who go through us, so that they become job creators rather than moving from one job to another. from one office to another looking for non-existent jobs. " he said.

He urged beneficiaries to take advantage of the poultry project and to explain why more support should be given to more people in this sector.

Strategic investment

Ms Kosi A. Yankey, Executive Director of NBSSI, said investment in the poultry sector was a strategic investment that could provide livelihoods for many young people.

She urged young people to seize the opportunities that they offer to them in the field of entrepreneurship because it is the way to obtain sustainable livelihoods, especially when the public sector is strangled.

Ms. Yankey said the NBSSI was ready to play its role effectively to help small businesses grow and create more employment opportunities in the country.
