Samuel Ofosu Ampofo34 Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National President of the NDC

According to information received by DGN Online, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National President of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), an opposition party, was arrested.

Police reportedly stopped earlier this afternoon in Accra, apparently as a result of suspected arson and kidnappings in Ghana.

DGN Online was informed that Mr Ofosu Ampofo was jumping from hotel to hotel and refused to stay home after hearing about his probable arrest after a high court issued an arrest warrant.

The Democratic National Congress (NDC) had already sounded the alarm that the government is taking steps to arrest its national president.

According to the opposition party, the NDC had learned that the government, using security agencies, had obtained a warrant for arrest in recent days for the arrest of our national president, the government, and the government. Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

The NDC said in a statement issued Sunday, June 9, 2019 and signed by its director of communications, Kakra Essamuah.

The statement said "we further learned that the security agencies had the intention to do so apparently in conjunction with elements of the NPP's self-defense forces and that they had the intention of Arrest the president so as to lower him in the esteem of Ghanaians. "

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is the subject of a lawsuit for a tape in which a voice purported to be his is being heard calling for the political kidnapping and killing of some people in Ghana.

Since there have been several cases of kidnappings and market fires, police have reported that the president of the NDC had been linked to some of the cases.

In the audio that leaked, the president of the NDC reportedly declared a ruthless war against the president of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.

There has been a series of kidnappings since the fleeing gang surfaced. Three girls from Takoradi in the western region have remained in captivity since their abduction a few months ago.

An Indian businessman was kidnapped in Kumasi a few weeks ago.

And recently, two Canadian women were also abducted in Kumasi.

It will be remembered that a few weeks ago, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghanaian police again invited Mr. Ofosu Ampofo to an "interrogation", the CID claiming that suspects arrested so far for kidnappings and arson had mentioned the name of Mr. Ofosu Ampofo as the "brain" behind the two crimes mentioned.

Bad precedent

But the NDC at the time had "prevented" its president from honoring the CID's invitation, saying it was already on trial.

DGN Online understands that the police went to get an arrest warrant because it would set a precedent if nothing had been done to stop after publicly defying the invitation that had been made to them.

And this led to his arrest today, June 11, 2019.

The president of the court would have simply issued a warrant arrest and search against the fugitive president of the NDC who avoided the service from one hotel to another.

In its latest statement, the party said that "the NDC takes very seriously the government's intention, if our information is correct, and wishes to draw the country's attention to the fact that, as president from the largest opposition party in Ghana, our national president has the right to be treated with the utmost respect and with the utmost dignity. "

"While respecting the position already expressed by the Council of Wise Men regarding the invitations of the police, we wish to declare that the National President is a law-abiding citizen who will never respect a duly obtained order from a court duly authorized to do it. . "

"This statement also aims to warn supporters of the National Democratic Congress and urge to await the imminent arrest of the national president in order to advance the narrow political interests of President Akufo. Addo to silence any legitimate political opposition, "said the president.

He added that "at any time, the national president of our party can count on the solidarity of all members of the party and we resolutely support the hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.
