Pluto TV launches the classic "Doctor Who" free channel in the United States – Variety

The BBC's first seven "Doctor Who" Time Lords landed on Pluto TV's free streaming service – on a contextual channel containing about 200 episodes of the cult's favorite sci-fi series.

Pluto TV, a Viacom-owned company, has also launched a contextual chain dedicated to the British version of "Antiques Roadshow," featuring more than 300 episodes of the Quarterly Alternate Quarterly Assessment, as part of the ####################################################################### 39, a content license agreement with BBC Studios.

On Pluto, the "Doctor Who" Clbadic program and other programs of BBC Studios are available only in the United States with the free video-on-demand service funded by advertising. Pluto TV's "Doctor Who" Clbadic channel (on this link) will include a selection of stories. Pluto TV originally announced that the content of the non-exclusive license agreement with BBC Studios would begin in May, but that the free window of "Doctor Who" Clbadic and "Antiques Roadshow" was opened in June. In total, the television contract between BBC Studios and Pluto covers nearly 1,000 episodes, totaling more than 700 hours of content. Other BBC shows on Pluto TV include "Being Erica", "Bedlam", "Primeval" and "Robin Hood".

Pluto's service provides more than 100 linear channels, which are programmed in a grid similar to that of a TV. Channel content is programmed – you can not launch individual titles on demand – although Pluto includes a separate VOD section containing several thousand free movies.

Viacom seized Pluto TV for $ 340 million in cash earlier this year, with the goal of further diversifying its digital business figure. At the beginning of April, Pluto TV announced to have more than 15 million unique monthly active users (compared with 12 million three months earlier).

Last month, Pluto TV launched 14 free channels with content from the Viacom library, including BET, Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon, as well as a dedicated contextual chain for MTV's The Hills.

Overall, Pluto TV has approximately 150 content licensing partners, including major studios, television networks and publishers, including CNN, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, MGM, CBS, Discovery, Meredith, Conde Nast and Warner Music Group.
