Like many of my peers, I fell headlong into Away's stylish luggage and travel accessories. I mean, the company is not a retail unicorn for no reason. The newest member of the family, the Weekender gym bag ($ 245), sent a lot of ink.

Since its inception four years ago, Away has earned a reputation for worship. You will probably recognize the famous Instagram motif at the airport as soon as you see it, and if you roll your Carry-on through the terminal, you will get the NOD from other Away owners. If you live in a city that has a brick and mortar store, you will also be surprised by the vibrations of the fashionable clothing store, as opposed to a stuffy suitcase store.

For those of us who have become fans of the simple but carefully designed luggage brand, the introduction of new equipment is a valid reason to remove the credit card and add it to your collection. . But before that, here is our complete review so you can decide if you are worth the investment.

True to its name, the Weekender is designed for fast road trips or the top locker for weekend getaways, or as an overflow for items you could not slip into your suitcase.

One of the things I really enjoy about the Weekender is the clbadic look of the duffle. Simple and functional without giving up style, it retains its shape unlike nylon duffel. There are no unnecessary additions or design touches; every aspect of this well-designed bag is there for a reason.

The Weekender is made of textured cotton canvas with matte leather accents and weighs less than 5 pounds. The bottom of the bag features a sturdy leather base, giving the bag added structure and durability. Of a length of about 21 inches, of a width of 12 inches and a depth of 8 inches, the bag is designed to be stowed in the upper compartments or under the seats of & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; A plane and slips easily into the trunk of the car.

The main compartment of the bag is spacious enough to hold enough clothes for an extended weekend. Ready to count the items?

On a recent trip, I was able to put on four shirts, two pants, four underwear, four socks, pajamas, my carry-on bag and a collection of 571 pages of Sherlock Holmes' work. In the lower shoe compartment, I was able to put on a pair of city shoes and my favorite New Balance sneakers. If I went to a more tropical place, I could have put two pairs of sandals, my favorite Toms and a pair of Rothy shoes.

It's 20 articles for a weekend, if you're still with me.

The Weekender also has several useful pockets, which adds to my number of items.

Inside the main compartment you will find a large zipper pocket and two other zipper pockets. On the outside of the bag, you'll find another large zippered pocket with practical inserts for small items like your cell phone, your plane ticket or your pbadport. In fact, these pockets are the perfect size for a pbadport and an iPhone.

My favorite pocket is by far the 15-inch padded laptop pocket that disappears into the design of the bag; it is very discreetly hidden between the straps and zipper of the main compartment and does not scream: "please, steal my laptop".

The bag has thick handles and a removable padded shoulder strap. You have the choice between several options to transport it. There is also a reflective strap at one end of the bag that allows for easy removal from an upper bin or trunk of the car.

One of the things I really like about the Weekender is that it has an extremely practical "strap" that can be slid over the long handle of a suitcase on long trips. I can not count the number of times my previous articles fell awkwardly from the top of my suitcase when I tried to rush through the terminal to my door. On my last trip, The Weekender stayed there, snug on my Medium suitcase while I barely made it to the door.

Seeing that the suitcases of Away are ubiquitous, you have the opportunity to customize the bag and distinguish it from others you will see at the airport. I am going to sew patches that I picked up on my last trip to Disneyland with my bag.

Despite all that I like in the bag, there are some disadvantages to take into account, especially for something that costs $ 245.

The shoulder grips have not cushioned, so if you drag a long way, your hands or your shoulders could start to hurt you. The snaps on the leather closure are a bit capricious and may take a few attempts to shut it completely. Leather also has a plastic feel, although the description says it's leather. This is not a problem because the use of leather is minimal in the overall design, but it is in important areas like the base, the side straps and the handles.

At $ 245, this bag is not cheap, but I love what Away offers a 100 day trial period. If you think that its price is worth it, you can return it. Custom bags can not be returned, so keep this in mind when ordering yours.

Currently, the Weekender is available in three colors: black canvas, olive and natural canvas. I would have liked it to come in more hues – like Sky, Blush and Navy – which are options for Away luggage.

After using it on a recent trip, I really think The Weekender is a well designed bag for people on the go. Small touches such as the concealed laptop compartment, the shoe compartment, extra pockets for storing important items, and the shoulder strap that pbades over a suitcase handle are things you'll never think of. as long as you do not need it – and that bag has it all.

But if you're looking for something smaller with similar features, the $ 195 Everywhere Bag is a smart choice. It comes in nylon with six colors, or leather with two colors.
