The 2019 Basic Training Exam (BECE) began on Monday, June 10, across the country.
According to reports, more than 500,000 students, including 263,616 boys and 253,716 girls, in 16,871 schools are preparing for the exams.
The Coalition for the Ghana Education Campaign (GNECC) commended the Ghana Education Service and the West Africa Review Board (WAEC) for ensuring the smooth running of the examinations.
Veronica Dzeagu, national coordinator of the Coalition, has sent a message of goodwill to BECE candidates, urging all students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to avoid any attempt at fraud in order to stand out from other students.
According to the coalition, the main purpose of these examinations is not to fail a child, but to evaluate the progress made by him in his learning.

GNECC WISHES TO BE CANDIDATES FOR SUCCESSFUL EXAMINATIONS
The Coalition for the Ghana Education Campaign (GNECC) wishes all candidates in the 2019 Certificate of Basic Education (BECE) exam, which begins June 10 across the country, an exam very successful. According to the Ghana Education Service, a total of 517,332 students, including 263,616 men and 253,716 women, are taking this year's exams. Every girl and boy participating in the BECE has tremendous potential and should be confident in their ability to excel if they maintain their purpose and determination.
The Coalition also congratulates the Ghana Education Service and the West Africa Examinations Council for the smooth running of the BECE 2019. We hope that all the necessary measures have been put in place to prevent the problems of cheating and leaking documents that have ruined previous examinations . The main purpose of these exams is to fail any child. It is rather to evaluate the progress made by the child in his learning.
Therefore, we urge all students, teachers, parents and all other stakeholders to avoid cheating in order to gain an advantage over other students. Security should also be strengthened, particularly in Chereponi and in other conflict areas, to ensure adequate protection of students during the examination of a week. As a coalition, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting the right to quality education for all children in Ghana.
