Given the increasingly diverse views of voters on the role and duties of MPs, the Department of Political Science of the University of Ghana, funded by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation, conducted a research that has uncovered the various views of voters on their members Parliament.
The research entitled Evaluation of 275 Members of Parliament – Electoral Constituency Perspectives was conducted in 275 constituencies across the country, involving 27,500 people, each representing 100 people.
According to the research findings, only 95 MPs would retain their seats if elections were held today. Statistically, 49% of Ghanaians in the country's 275 constituencies said that they would vote for their MPs if elections were held today, while 42.6% said they were negative and 7.9% are undecided. .
The results also showed that NPP MPs were not involved in disseminating information on the government's flagship programs, particularly "One District One Factory" and "One Village One Dam".
When asked if MPs promised development projects in their campaign programs, 88.7% said yes, while 11.3% said no.
Research, among other things, also revealed that 52.3% of respondents were not satisfied with the performance of parliamentarians.
The findings of the research were presented on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana by keynote speakers, MM. Isaac Owusu Mensah and Alexander Kaakyire Frempong.
