The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), temporarily closed the Ahodwo apartments where the two Canadian women were staying before the abduction.
According to the police and a manager of the tourist office, the apartment is not registered and has not been licensed as a commercial property to rent rooms to the public.
The police also explained why she had closed the premises, citing the security hotel that was not providing a guard post, a security guard, including the installation of CCTV cameras.
A report from the region previewed by Modernghana, said the Tourist Board had stuck a notice of closure at the entrance of the establishment, warning the general public not to frequent the hotel.
Officials from the tourism office claimed that the apartment was operating without complying with the legal obligations provided by legislative instruments LI 2238 and 2239 for the accommodation of catering and entertainment companies.
Theophilus Acheampong, regional director of Ashanti, head of tourism in Ghana, reportedly told the media that the apartment was where Canadian girls had stayed.
He claimed that the hotel was not registered with the tourist board to obtain a license to operate his business. Its exploitation is therefore considered illegal.
The regional tourism officer said that he would continue the exercise in other facilities in the region in order to ensure the establishment of a system of security and security for its customers.
