The future Duchess of Cambridge was perhaps naturally embarrbaded when photos of William dancing with a girl in a nightclub in London surfaced in 2007. According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, Kate confronted William about them and then decided to take time out of their relationship this biographer Andrew Morton called a "refusal to commit". A friend of William's told the Daily Mail at the time that Kate was taking the break with determination.
They would have said, "Kate did everything in her power to force him to stay. He played a part a minute to wait, then difficult to get the next one.
"The other week, she said that she intended to be photographed in as many places as she could without William punishing him for all those pictures that seemed to see him dancing with other girls .
"But William's heart was gone.
"As she was preparing the wedding, he was looking for a way out of it."
It was actually the second time the couple separated, after undergoing a "test separation" at the university in 2004.
However, it seems that Kate's approach to the second break worked exactly as she wished.
Royal photographer Kent Gavin said that in the months following their separation, Kate had been photographed attending several events.
He said: "She went to a few nights in London in warm pants for charity – all these wonderful events – and I think William had to see what was missing."
Despite Kate's photos being partying, she never spoke to the press and behaved "brilliantly," according to former BBC correspondent, Jennie Bond.
Ms. Bond said, "She did not ridicule herself and most importantly, she did not talk to the press."
In the end, they only separated a few months before returning to their love after Diana's concert.
The concert, organized by William and Harry in memory of their late mother, would have been a "catalyst" for the meeting of William and Kate.
It was the first time the public saw the two men together. Kate was sitting in two rows of William next to her brother.
Mrs. Nicholl said, "It was a memorable and moving moment when Take That sang Back for Good and Kate swayed her hips and sang the lyrics.
"I guess everyone needs to know they were back for good."
Referring to the moment they met in 2007, a close friend of the couple told Andrew Morton: "[William] realized what he really wanted in life.
"He thought he could do better, but quickly realized what he had abandoned."
Despite their hesitation in the mid-2000s, William and Kate became stronger and married at a beautiful ceremony in 2011.
Since then, they have had three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
After a brief break in their relationship, Kate said in 2010 that, in retrospect, she appreciated the time she had.
She said in her engagement interview with William that you can be quite "engrossed" in a relationship when you are young and that the time you spend apart can help you learn things about yourself.
