ACCRA (Reuters) – Chelsea defender Abdul Rahman Baba is expected to return to Ghana in the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after being named to the 23-man squad for the tournament in Egypt, which will start next week.

The 24-year-old played for his country for the final stage in Gabon in 2017, where he suffered a serious knee injury that blocked his career.

On loan at Schalke 04 in Chelsea at the time, the Bundesliga club described the injury as "a complex rupture of the cruciate ligament with internal and external cartilage tears".

He returned to the game last May but failed to be part of Schalke's team and spent the second half of the season on loan at Stade Reims in France.

Andre Ayew will captain Ghana in what will be his sixth appearance in the final, while 33-year-old Asamoah Gyan will move to seventh place.

Team:

Goalkeepers: Felix Annan (Asante Kotoko), Lawrence Ati-Zigi (Sochaux), Richard Ofori (Maritzburg United)
